Lindsay Lohan "I've made a lot of mistakes"
Lindsay Lohan has said that she is willing to work hard to rebuild her reputation.
Speaking on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the actress said that she wants public perception to be about her work and "not about things that I didn't get into this business for".
She said: "I've made a lot of poor decisions in the past and I'm dealing with the consequences of those decisions... I'm a fighter and I know that I have to work to gain the respect back.
"I'm not a kid anymore, I'm 24, I've made a lot of mistakes, and I recognise that. But I'm in the clear now, and I feel like as long as I stay focused, then I will be able to achieve what I want to achieve."
Lohan offered some comment on her ongoing theft case but was keen to point out that she did not want to say too much as legal proceedings are still ongoing.
She was released on bail this weekend following her original sentence, which included 120 days in jail for a probation violation. The former child star will also undertake community service as part of her sentence.
"Because the case is still pending I can't really say much, but I was kind of shocked, I didn't expect the outcome to be what it was," she said.
"But I'm a big girl and I'm going to do what I'm told to do... I'm taking responsibility."
The original charge against Lohan of grand felony theft was reduced to a misdemeanour at Friday's hearing.
Lohan has also revealed that she would like to win an Oscar before she turns 30.
The actress discussed her future projects, the paparazzi and her past troubles on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
When asked by Leno where she saw herself at 30, she quipped: "Sitting here after I've won an Oscar, that'd be ideal!"
The Mean Girls star made her first appearance on Leno's show at the age of 12.
Lohan also revealed more about how she won the role of Kim Gotti in the biopic Gotti: Three Generations, saying that she feels "very excited" to be working on the project.
Explaining how she got the part, she said: "I was contacted by Marc Fiore... he said, 'Can you come to New York, we're interested in you playing a role in the movie'. So, I was on a plane to New York the next day.
"I had a press conference sitting in front of John Travolta, and some other people, which was very overwhelming, but very exciting. So I'm really honoured."
The actress further explained that she wanted to take a hands-on approach to the role, saying: "I'd want to get to know [Kim Gotti] and go through some of the experiences that she's had... being a wife of one of the Gotti family.
"I think that's really important and I'll definitely do some research on her, but it's a little premature for that right now."
Lohan, who revealed that she is a big fan of 'mob movies' like The Godfather, added that she had met John Gotti Jr at the age of 3.
When Leno quipped that meeting the mobster at such a young age explained why the star had "been in so much trouble", Lohan responded by saying: "I was waiting for that to come up!"
She added: "I don't know [how it happened], I was three, I don't remember. If I could remember, then I'd probably tell you!"
