
Katie Couric has quite the sense of humor!
The broadcaster attended an intimate lunch at the Hearst Tower in New York Wednesday, where she had been invited along to celebrate the release of her new book, The Best Advice I Ever Got: Lessons from Extraordinary Lives.
“I’m happy to be a ho for this book,” Katie Couric told guests, which mostly included editors-in-chief of Hearst’s magazines, including Cosmoplitan,Harper’s Bazaar and Good Housekeeping. That’s because profits will be donated to Scholarship America.
Meanwhile, Couric has opened up about the rumors she’s set to launch her own syndicated talk show!
The star will soon be leaving the CBS Evening News after five years on the job. No departure date has been set, but her contract expires June 4. She had been expected to stay on through the 2012 elections.
Couric discussed her future during a recent appearance on the the Today show with Matt Lauer.
“I think what might appeal to me [in a syndicated talk show] is just the creative freedom to pick subjects. To really dig deep. To have a smart, intelligent conversation,” she said.
“You know me, Matt. I’m like [makes funny face] whaaaaa. That’s the kind of person I am, so it might be nice to have a little more wiggle room for me to show my personality.”
Recent reports claimed Couric is quitting her CBS Evening News anchor job for the sake of her children and herself.
The former Today show star, 54, is ready to sign off in June when her $15 million-a-year contract expires, according to American tabloid the National Enquirer.
“Katie feels she has nothing else to prove in the job,” divulged a close friend
.
“Katie traveled at great personal risk to Egypt during the country’s recent revolution, and the dangerous trip made her realize that she needs to stay out of harm’s way for the sake of her two daughters whom she is raising as a single mom.
“She also wants time to heat up her romance with her longtime boyfriend Brooks Perlin, who is 17 years younger.”
