Tom Hanks Green Day movie role

Tom Hanks is set to produce American Idiot a new film based on Green Day’s 2004 album.

The actor, 54, will work in collaboration with Green Day.

The rock band and their label had been in negotiations about a possible big-screen adaptation, following the success of the American Idiot Broadway musical, which was directed by Michael Mayer.

Hanks has previously declared he is finally confident about his acting ability.

“I no longer feel insecure about my acting. Early on I took any job that was offered, milking it for the money,” said the double Oscar-winner.

“I had no idea what I was doing that’s when insecurity and self-loathing start.”

Hanks that he has also thrown away his vanity.

“After a while you have to give up being vain. In [new film] Angels And Demons I have to wear a Speedo to go swimming,” Hanks told  Britain’s Radio Times.

“It takes a real man to slap on a Speedo and say, ‘I’m ready for work.’”
